Itinerary

Day 1: Embarking on a journey from Athens to Delphi

Prepare for an enriching experience filled with history, natural beauty, and cultural immersion. Your journey typically begins in the bustling city of Athens. Once you leave the urban sprawl of Athens behind, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through the picturesque countryside of central Greece. The road winds through rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards, offering glimpses of rural life and stunning landscapes along the way. Keep your camera handy to capture panoramic views of the Greek countryside and the majestic Mount Parnassus looming in the distance.

After a journey of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, you’ll arrive in Delphi, a place steeped in ancient mythology and archaeological wonders.

Ancient Greeks believed that Delphi was the Navel of the Earth, a place seen as a spiritual focal point for all Greeks; it included many sanctuaries and the most prestigious oracle in all of ancient Greece. This is where Pythia, the high priestess, uttered the divine advice of god Apollo to mortals who travelled from across the world to seek a prophecy. Apart from Greeks, the Oracle was visited also by foreign leaders and dignitaries who were anxious to know the will of Apollo on important state affairs.

Accompanied by a professional guide, you’ll marvel at the beauty of the ancient monuments, including the ruins of the Temple of Apollo and the Athenian Treasury. You’ll have plenty of time to soak in the magical scenery, after which it’ll be time to visit the Delphi museum, where some of the finest examples of ancient Greek art are on display – including the world-famous bronze statue of the Charioteer of Delphi. Overnight in Arachova

Visit 3 main monasteries of Meteora and discover the natural beauty and the cultural heritage of this area. This Meteora Half-day Sightseeing Tour will take you back to the dark ages and the story of the first hermits and monks who laid the foundations of what later on became the monastic community of Meteora.

Learn which monastery was the first to be established and the true motivations behind the monks’ decision to try to climb the steep rocks of Meteora and build the monasteries there. Learn everything, see everything! And then we will take you to the most beautiful spots to enjoy amazing views and take photos. With this comprehensive half-day morning Tour of Meteora, you’ll discover this astonishing site through the eyes and the narrative of the locals!

Bid farewell to the tranquil beauty of Meteora as you embark on the road southward towards Thermopylae and eventually Athens.

After a drive of approximately 2 hours, you’ll arrive at the historic battlefield of Thermopylae, where ancient legends and epic tales come to life. Thermopylae, meaning “Hot Gates,” is renowned for its pivotal role in Greek history, particularly during the famous Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BCE, where King Leonidas and his Spartan warriors made their legendary stand against the Persian invasion. Take time to explore the battlefield and its surrounding monuments, including the Leonidas Monument.

Prepare for the final stretch of your journey, a drive of approximately 2 more hours, as you anticipate the sights, sounds, and experiences awaiting you in Athens present.
